2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: The Domino Effect

Mx throttles are nice. They make everything easier, I recommend them much.

As for the reed, now thats true, on these small kits its propably not worth it, just on bigger ones. I had on big ones its really noticable, tried on small but thats not worth there. Malossi Vl6 reeds are pretty cheap, just bolt on and good to go. Pretty good performance too.
On nearly (and eventually) all of my bikes with 23mm+ carbs I run the Domino throttle found on two stroke GP bikes. Benji at Treats stocks them because I sourced the part number, and asked him if he could get them for me—they've since become a popular part.

One year at the local moto show they brought a paddock of GP bikes. I took a massive amount of photos of the accessories on these bikes. Then went hunting them down—took a fair amount of effort too. Eventually I found the part numbers, and now you can find a many of these parts at Treats. ;)

But these throttles on a small carb turns into 1/16th turn! No modulation, and that sucks. Much better to keep the original throttle in most cases. Now there are ways to make them work, and eventually I'll be doing a tutorial on it—you can get a preview in the CX65 thread. The other problem is if you are to run the auto luber. The bikes I have with the larger carbs don't get the auto luber so it's not an issue, but with the smaller carbs once again it is an issue. And sure there is a solution, and maybe someday I'll write that one up too, but don't count on it happening any time soon! :P

With the reeds you have to consider that it's not plug and play on the Derbi engines. With an AM6 like you have it's the same size as the KTM65 so it's easy peasy, and works well, but that's just not the case with the Derbi engine. Now I'm running them on some Derbis, and yes they are nice, but there's more effort, and more risk without any noticeable benefit over the Malossi setup to run them on a smaller kit.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Contraptons

I wouldn't mess around with those contraptions at all. It would be just way too easy for the bike to fall when you are working on them. I've never seen a professional employ one. Now I'm not a pro! Just a serious hobbyist that happens to be a trained research scientist (meaning I know how to quickly find things out), and here's how I tackle that problem.

There are two viable methods that are both inexpensive (you probably already have one of them in your garage), and work great. If you have solid rear sets you can achieve this results with just standard jack stands. One under each peg and Bob's your uncle. I have also done this with folding pegs, you just have to be more careful.

The other option is to get a scissors jack with a flat top surface. Yes you have to remove the pipe, but if you are pulling the swing arm that's going to happen anyway so it's not an issue.

I mostly run the stock filters. There might be a K&N available for your bike—it's what I use in the 899, and the Saab. If so those are nice, and reusable, unlike the paper filters with basically suck. Many of the bike have foam filters, and those are great. You clean them, oil them, and it's off to the races just like an MX bike. Make sure to keep your air box. Pod filters are a no no on street bikes.

It's true when wrenching on these bikes it does seem like there's always some part missing, or what not. I tried to think though all the stuff you'll need. Of course there are basics like oil, sealers, tools, etc., but I don't have enough time to write out all of that stuff. You can look through my project posts to see what I use—there are lots of photos with my tools laying around. :P

Oh really I never tried it on derbi engine, just on am6. I tought that they are just fit in and go. Well everyday has some new to learn.

As for the mx, I always used them for small carbs too, just with a little modification, I just love them too much.
On my small carbs my first modification was to remove the auto luber, for me the premix was perfect. I guess it depends what carb do you use.

As for the airfilter, you can keep the stock, they are good up to like 23mm. Just put a better filter in the stock box. You can get entire filter pads in Polini and Malossi both lf them is very nice.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Fitment

Post by toratora » Thu Oct 25, 2018 12:39 am

K—That became rather obvious during these posts. ;)

You can see in this photo how it doesn't fit particularly well. It can be made to work, but it's not straight forward.

B—It would probably do you well to spend some time reading through the Red Rocket thread. I ran into a massive number of issues wrenching on that bike, and your bike is basically the same.

It the thread you can see some of the solutions I came up with while in Japan. I didn't have my usually resources so it was quite the MacGyver adventure!

Re: 2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project -Leathers

Post by Berkeley » Fri Oct 26, 2018 1:19 am

Something rather nice arrived in the post today.. full set of leathers with D1 back protector. Getting them online saved 290 euros

The Jacket i got from Motard
I got the pants from there too but didnt have the right size so sent them back

The pant I re ordered from Sports bike shop they came pretty quick only a couple of days.

Just be really careful when ordering online.. the sizes for dainese are completely messed up, i.e. a size 48 is a size 16 which is a womans UK 10..

Hahahahahah... If only tora

Finally succeeded in the double sequential LEDS.. for somethings thats relativity straight forward it was a biaatch, 10 black and red cables coming out of one hole .. no wonder i messed up a few times.

Replacing the tail tidy, the number plate light was right up against the tail light.. So tightening it up.. it cracked and a piece of the lens fell out,.. so will be my job next week to replace.. Have put some washers behind the tail tidy so hopefully this should fix the problem next time.
