Hi everyone,

I've noticed that many newer motorcycles are using automotive polymer composites in different components to reduce weight while maintaining good durability. It made me wonder how much of a difference lightweight materials actually make on smaller sport bikes like the RS50, Derbi GPR, and similar machines.

On lightweight bikes, even small weight savings can improve handling and make the bike feel more responsive, especially on twisty roads. Besides performance, modern materials may also offer better resistance to weather and corrosion for certain non-structural parts.

I'm curious if anyone here has upgraded fairings, covers, brackets, or other components using lightweight aftermarket materials.

Did you notice any improvement in handling, acceleration, or overall riding experience? Or do you think the original factory parts are still the best choice for these bikes?

I'd be interested to hear about your setups and what modifications have made the biggest difference for your motorcycle.

Interesting question...

With smaller motorcycles (and especially bicycles), the one significant performance increase that often gets conveniently overlooked is reducing rider weight.

Looking for more performance? The easiest way to gain acceleration is to drop those extra 10/20+ pounds. There's rarely any way to drop significant weight on a small cycle compared to reducing the weight of the rider.

People are always looking for upgrades and weight reduction for the cycle, when the biggest gains are available from reducing excess rider weight.
