So after a very good ski break :D .. many of the little parts arrived so could fix her back up again. Still waiting for the replacement fairings and eventually will replace the light.

I put an order in for some replacement crash protectors , when they arrived it was the whole kit and not just the bobbins, but the shape was better

Image

Image

They were still too flexible when attached to the bike so ordered a long sleeve which was cut down to a snug fit.

Image

Image

The bobbins were fitted directly to the fairing so they should have some give ( if crashed again)

Looking much tidier!!

These rear sets I brought reversed the gearing of the bike. I road it yesterday and although it was ok it wasn't natural so decided to change half of it back

Image

The gear changer needed to be black to match

Image

The rear pegs also needed to be sprayed black

Image

Whilst I was at it I decided to paint the engine cover black and highlight the Aprilia.
I need to find another way of masking the lettering. I ended up hand painting the name, this turned out pretty rough in the end so next week ill do a better job.

Image

Looks good in the matt black and red name. The replacement foot pegs came today so fitted them as well!! :D

A funny thing happened when I was out riding with Amaya the other month. All of a sudden her loud fog horn turned into chocked chicken. The bracket holding it sheared away and it dropped onto the exhaust, which caused it to melt. I did repair it but it just didnt sound right so replaced it.

So finally ready to fit the front brake disc but needed to change the colour from florescent red to brilliant red

Image

Getting the clips out to remove the central spindle was easy enough but getting them back in just needed the right technique.

Image

In order to replace the front disc I waited until I has the fixed pegs and the jacks ready

Image

I went to 3 shops today to get some scissor jacks for the front forks and none available... useless!!! so made some custom pegs for the paddock stand which worked well and made the bike stable for working on. A better way would be to fit some round bar with the bolts on the end so the bolts heads would fit perfectly when the paddock stand rotated. (next time)

Image

The disc was removed easily thanks to a heating tip from Tora :D

Looking good now on!!

Make sure that you choose for the right handlebar size tough. If you manage to put it on without oil, they never slip. (If the handlebar has the right size)
Sometimes they mess up the sizes of the throttle. This could cause slipping. I hope that an other grip will solve this.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Getting a Grip

Post by toratora » Sat Jan 05, 2019 1:39 am

That cover came out brilliant. I’ve seen some painted previously, and that looks better than any of the others.

I’ve not had that problem with those grips. It does look like they were put on too far. Hair spray works well for putting them on, as does Windex. :ghost:

I’m still concerned about the frame slider mount. That part of the bike wasn’t designed to take those sorts of forces. :monocle:

Glad you didn’t have to deal with extracting a broken bolt. I can tell you on those wheels it is no fun at all. Did you thread lock them when putting them back? This is an important step, because the could come loose. :?

I like how with this bike you are paying attention to details. :heart_eyes_cat:

Cheers... :D

The painting left brush marks on the letters.. Ok if from afar but not close up.. has to look perfect/professional !

The grips should wedge onto the protruding rim. They did to start with then they pealed back for some reason???

For the studs I ran out of loctite as I was about to do the first one..had 15mins to get to the store before it closed .... made it though and was applied.

You could be right about the sliders but figured it's the same as landing the side fairing on the floor. Behind it there's a bracket that's then attached to the main frame. In the crash previously the bracket was bent on the other side that I then re bent into it's original shape.
I have a feeling the fairing may crack if the slider hits the ground.. but lets see... hopefully not .. managed to pick up the new side fairing today from the store a nice 175 euros later  will fit them tomorrow.
