Not every one likes them and not everyone hates them. I had brand new thermostats and they failed very often. My luck was that I noticed it. I'm not taking the risk of having one. Others do and some dont have any problem some have. If you want to be sure it does not fail then remove it. If you trust it then dont. I dont really trust anything on a 2t engine. Maybe just the bike frame. But everyting can go wrong.

Hi guys so where would one go on the metrakit I've just brought? and could i use the stock one from the other head? I dont think there is much chance of warming the bike up so thinking one will have to go in. cheers

You need to warm it up with thermostat too just for less time. But as I said there is a chance of failure. I seized 3 very good top ends. But you can just twist out the thermostat from the old head and twist it in the new head. Where the water pipe goes on. The other hole is for a temperature sensor. So you need to put it under the water pipe as it blocks the incoming water when cold. I saw heads where you wasnt able to fit a thermostat in. But it should be a twist in type if I remember correctly.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Thermostats

Post by toratora » Wed Nov 07, 2018 12:39 pm

With the Euro2 engines the thermostats just slipped into the water inlet on the top of the head where the hose connects. On the Euro3 they moved it to inside the head. You could probably just remove the thermostat from the old head, and slip it into the water inlet on the new head—small end of the thermostat first.

I don't use them around here, but then 9°C is consider cold here, and you probably have much colder days. However if you don't then just don't use it. Instruct Amaya to ride the bike slow until it gets up to around 50°C on the H2O gauge. Meaning don't get on the pipe. This is a much better way to warm up a bike, because it's unlikely to foul plugs, which will happen if you let the bike sit and idle for an extended period of time. Plus it warms up the transmission at the same time. ;)

There is a BIG danger with thermostats though. If you get the engine warm with the water in it, then hoon the bike the cold water goes flushing in, and can cause a seize. So even with a thermostat you need to let the bike warm up, but you can't tell where it is at from your gauge, because it is inside the head water.

Ok, cool at least with the temp gauge there is a figure to say dont hoon it until xxxx. Just when she uses it for school ( a lot) always in a rush to get there in the mornings so i know she hoons it because i can hear her in my office when she leaves.

Yes the euros 3 thermostat is in the bottom, and the metrakit a drop in from the top :) .

The needle for the carb arrived today 12/22 has quite a different profile then the 14/22 .
Image
The thing is that the 12/22 doesnt fit into the carb slide seat as the 14/22 does. So do I use force, drill it out a bit, or do I need to order a new carb slide?

Best to ask now then to break it or do something I shouldn't. cheers

This is as far as it goes down.

I would expect that it can't be the correct needle then.

Measure the diameter and compare it to the original one.

I wouldn't force it.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Pins and Needles

Post by toratora » Wed Nov 07, 2018 1:39 pm

I agree probably the wrong needle. They probably sent you needles for a PWK, rather than for a CP. I would just run the stock needle until you are tuning the bike. You wont know if you need a change based on the previous setup because nearly all of the important variables have changed.

As far as the gauge goes, with the thermostat installed it cannot warn you fast enough that the moment when the thermostat opens in order to make a difference if you are hooning it. If you are watching it as things come up to temp you will see a drop in temp, but if cold water hits a hot engine when that engine is revved out, bad things can happen. This is the main reason I remove them from my kitted bikes. Jay's bike isn't kitted, and on the EBE075 engines I have I leave the thermostat in there too. But on all the kitted bikes I remove them. It's also much better for the cooling to remove the thermostat, because as you can see much better flow can take place without the obstruction.

Re: 2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 - Tail end Tidy

Post by Berkeley » Thu Nov 08, 2018 1:32 pm

Hi Guys, I wouldn't recommend fitting the Evotech tail tidy without drilling a hole further down for the number plate light to fit else when tightening up the lens will crack.

I got a replacement rear tail light today and it cost me 165.00 so a little expensive mistake.

How it was seated before

The damage

Tried with washers but looked shite

Drilled the hole

Fits perfectly now, although how much of the tiny number plate can be seen is questionable.

I have tomorrow to get some tools if needed as nothing useful opens at the weekend thanks
