GoPro released a new entry level camera into their line up today—the GoPro Hero. Sharing the same case as their Hero 6 and Hero 5 cameras the new Hero packs an impressive number of features into a budget camera. Like the 5 and 6 the Hero includes the 2" rear facing touch screen allowing for easy camera setup, and video review. The Hero can shoot 60 FPS video at 1080p/1440p, and stills at 10 MP with up to 10 FPS in burst mode.

Like the 5 and 6 the new Hero responds to voice commands for hands free control. The Hero also includes image stabilization to smooth out he bumps. Unlike the 6 the Hero doesn't include Protune for manual control of the camera's color, and white balance, however the built in GoPro LUTs are quite effective at producing vibrant color. Nor can the Hero shoot 4K video, however for most social media 1080p is more than sufficient.

Because all three cameras share the same body the wide selection of mounting accessories will work with the Hero. One notable accessory that wont is the external mic adapter. This missing feature will make it difficult for the MotoVloggers who would have to capture their audio with another device. The Hero does feature built in stereo recording with advanced wind noise reduction in mono—like the 5 and 6 cameras.

One rather nice feature included with the Hero is compatibility with GoPro's Quick Stories cell phone app. When used in conjunction the Hero video can quickly and easily be edited automatically to produce videos which can then be uploaded to the user's social media.

Overall the new Hero looks like a fantastic entry into the action camera arena.
