Hey!

Would you mind sharing where you pulled that info from?

I ended up buying this one. Title shows 2000. I've searched but not seeing anything that indicates it is a 1998 GPR75. Anything on the Vin or engine I can verify?

Thanks!

doubl3clutch GPR75: Clarification

There’s nothing in the documentation that is going to show this information. Also titles frequently misrepresent the particulars of a bike. The reason we know this isn’t a 2000 is because of the livery. And yes it is possible that someone changed the livery at some point in time. The silver tail piece is from a slightly earlier version of the bike. But the only real difference is in the livery.

Everything else is the same. Theoretically the VIN should hold the year of manufacture, but these ofter don’t reflect the model year as most makers come out with next year’s models in the previous fall.

The livery on this bike new should have been something like this one.

A 2000 would look something like this one. There should be red Derbi logos on the faux tank. :scream_cat:

As for it being an 075 you can verify this by looking at the engine just behind where the carburetor mounts. Stamped into the cases will be the part number EBE075. You’ll find it just above the engine serial number. Most GPRs that came into the states before the 2003 Second Edition models were 075s. :paw_prints:

Well tora, you got me wondering...

I've always called my GPR 75 a 2000, and I had to check my Title.

My GPR as I got it -

My Title reads "2000" as well.

doubl3clutch GPR75: Vindication

What is the tenth digit of the bike’s VIN? (V, W, X, Y, 1, 2, 3) That will tell you the year it was physically made—which is not the same thing as the model year! People get this stuff wrong all the time. I recently saw one of these bikes listed as a 2009! Frequently the title will list the first year a bike was registered. If it sat in the back of a shop for ten years, was sold, then registered someone might be inclined to call it a 2009.

The 2000 livery is like the second photos I posted. The livery of your bike is a predecessor, which is to say not a 2000. But like I said the only differences between 1997 to 2000 were in the livery. So it only becomes important if you are trying to source an accurate body panel. Otherwise there is no functional difference between the bikes. Of course it is nice to actually know what year your bike is so that when you tell people they know which livery you are describing. :monocle:

Eventually I’ll get my Evolution post finished, and it will all become clear. The thing that stopped my progress was getting decent photo examples. The search engines have gotten much less useful for this due to copyright issues. :paw_prints:

That would indicate that your bike was manufactured in 1998. :paw_prints:

So it would be a 1999 model then?

How did a 1998 model differ?

Thanks!

At this point we need to collect more data. Let’s see what DC’s VIN tells us. Unfortunately the VIN can only tell us the year, and not the month of manufacturing. However, all over your bike are little circle stamps. In the center of the circle is a year number, and on the radius will be a month indicator. If you have one that shows a part was made in 99 with the month of July this would indicate that your bike wasn’t built until well into 99. Of course with bikes like these, and unknown history any part on them could have been switched out at some point in time. :paw_prints:
