ah, thats where I took the AJP caliper picture from

Having a look at my rear suspension its made by Olle and is the R16V 564406 model,

On their site they have upgraded ones and maybe with the piggyback perpendicular to the shock it could fit? this im finding out.. still not a Ohlins but may actually fit.

Coming across the OEM parts for the calipers, there are the two options, AJP and J.Juan. The price difference is quite large so there must be some performance gain in the j.juan??

I really cant see anything that will fit so will just so a repaint, add the decals and will fit with brembo pads

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Shocks and Calipers

Post by toratora » Fri Sep 21, 2018 9:39 am

The price difference could be due to a close out. When they changed the name of the company it's likely that they sold off the old stock at bargain prices. That 117£ caliper is not the same one that I bought though. That one looks like the stock caliper on some of the newer bikes.

The issue with mounting alternative shocks is gaining enough neck length to work on the frame. If you look at the photos of the shocks from my other thread/post you can see what I'm talking about.

The stock Olle shocks are very basic. The Euro bike companies seem to put their money into the chassis expecting that the shock will get replaced if someone wants serious suspension. If the chassis is up for it this is a much better way to go than putting in a slightly better shock, and not putting the money into the chassis. The reason being if the shock is going to be replaced what's the point in putting money into it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The unfortunate state is that the third party suppliers haven't really done a decent job of making alternatives available. It's understandable though, because how many people that buy these bikes are going to spend a quarter of the retail price of the bike on a shock?

Great bit of background there.

I did get in contact with fire fox racing and they said that they would make a custom shock for me based on the YSS G series for around £500.00. I have to send them the original for a few days so they can measure then it would take about 3 weeks to make. I just wonder if these shocks are any good and is it worth it?

If you look on the YSS site they do fit on the 125's so as a guess they should be pretty similar.

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: YSS, and what is an RS 125?

Post by toratora » Fri Sep 21, 2018 2:24 pm

It's really difficult finding fitments, because the nomenclature is all screed up. The RS 125 they list on the YSS site is for the 2009 and prior two stroke version—not the RS 50 based 125 four stroke version. These 125s are totally and completely different bikes—even if they share the same moniker. You can write a nice letter to the marketing department thanking them for making life so interesting.

If the YSS shocks all look like the one in the image you linked then it is highly unlikely that they will be able to put something together. If the neck on the shock isn't long (like in the photos I've posted), then the shocks wont fit. It's possible that they might produce a remote reservoir, but even then their shocks don't appear to come in a version with a long neck. :geek:

:geek: :geek: :geek: awesome cheers.. I'll mention this to them and see what they say before I go to the trouble of posting my part to England to be only told it's not possible.
I found their advert on eBay for refurbishing ohlins shocks. So thought maybe they could do something as you found one to fit... let's see but I'm glad were having this discussion ;)

For something that should be done relatively quickly.. it took its time. Both the R&G and Audew work fine. i fitted the Audew as you can control the speed.
