Another couple of things added were the bar end slider, as the left looked out of place. I got the RS4 125 ones that fitted fine from R & G Racing, only 22.00 euros

The Best buy so far had to be the fog horn from Denali. The unit just about fitted, I should had got the split one but all was good in the end. Luckily I found a bracket with my tail tidy that fitted perfectly, this was via R&G racing I brought the wire harness kit which made all the difference at around £50.00. I thought it would be harder than it actually was.

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Calipers

Post by Berkeley » Tue Sep 18, 2018 2:47 pm

Hey Tora...

How do I know if these calipers will fit. If you search for RS4 50, or 125 then a bunch come up. Any idea what the size should be? Thanks

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: 80mm

Post by toratora » Tue Sep 18, 2018 6:39 pm

The first thing to look for is the spacing on the mounting bolts. On these bikes the spacing is 80mm. The Brembos come in either 100mm, or 110mm. Which is to say there's not an easy solution to putting those on these bikes.

The Stage6 is spaced to the correct size, but the bolts are smaller, so they wont work either.

The ByBre that come on the new 390 KTMs are 80mm, and I think the bolt holes might be the same size. This is a possibility, but then you need to find out what the offset is in order to know if they reach in the proper amount.

For me I just took the easy way out and got an AJP caliper that I knew would fit because they fit on the Derbi 2005 GPR 125 2T. Later I found the same caliper in black so I bought those for the DPR, and Red Rocket bikes.

Great , I didnt know what the 100/110 etc was referring to in terms of dimensions.
Looking online I thought that the calipers for the standard bike was AJP as it came up a few times on different pages but then its stamped with JJ. So i guess they are the J.Juan Caliper, as well as them coming up several times on a few pages. Are they the same but with a different trade make or are they different makes but both fit for the RS50?

Yes the AJP ones look a lot nicer if comparing.

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Suspension and Brakes

J Juan bought AJP a couple of years ago or so. Basically the new stuff comes with the moniker J Juan. The caliper that's fitted on the newer bikes appears to be a four piston unit. I got one with the 2012 bike, but outside of a very short test ride I never used it, and I didn't have the time to even look it over. Is it as good as the 125 2T/Metrakit version? Hard to say. The 125 2T/Metrakit caliper looks better, and works great with a Brembo RCS 14 master. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Getting Öhlins on these bikes isn't as easy as on other bikes. Öhlins has never seemed to recognize any production Derbi, and as far as I know they haven't done so with the 50cc versions of the Aprilias. But for creative people that doesn't mean you can't get the job done. On the DRP 2005 bike I did such a thing. However, that solution wont work on the later bikes because there's no place for the reservoir.

While doing research for the 2012 bike I was able to get the specs for the rear shock. I even found an Öhlins dealer that was open to assembling a custom shock for me. But I ran out of time before I had to head off to Japan for the Adventure. Because I didn't get everything together I don't think I've posted about it yet. Still this is something for which I still intend to follow up on once my finances get turned around. ;)

Good man!!! Cheers. Do you know where I can source some 125 2t metakit calipers from? Been looking all night and can only find the odd brake pad.
And looking at other ones such as stage 6 they are 82mm.
I've come across some voca ones.. they are 82mm as well I take it the stage 6 fitted?

2018 RS4 50 Euro 4 Upgrade Project: Clutching the Caliper

Post by toratora » Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:39 pm

Some time ago I looked at the Magura clutch system, and some other similar products out of China. Ultimately I decided that The cable was okay. The thing that sold me on the cable were the new Aprilia RSV4s that came out. The RSV had the hydraulic clutch, but the V4 went to a cable. I figure if a cable was good enough for the V4 it ought to be good enough for the GPR. ;)

The caliper spacing could easily be 82mm, I haven't measured them in many years. ;)

The Voca calipers look to be the same as the Stage6, so I wouldn't expect them to be a direct replacement.

I got my calipers on eBay from PieceMoto42
