2018 Aprilia RS4 50: Just Ride

Post by toratora » Mon May 13, 2019 3:39 pm

Super cool!!

Nice that you guys are going out to the track. I’m surprised you are going out there too. The kart track is a total blast, and I’m sure you’d get a chance to hone your technical too. Rossi and the VR46 Academy still rides the kart tracks for that very reason.

There’s always red wheels. :heart_eyes_cat:

ah cheers tora,

I go on the bigger track with my bike.. It just depends on when they have the sessions and with amaya the track location varies from place to place. Unfortunately where amaya does most of her practicing they are a bit 'racist' towards 2 strokes . so she cant take her bike on there to practice with:( as sometime all the other bikes are booked out) . apparently they are too noisy!! but some tracks which are a bit more in the countryside have higher db levels so will try to do that!

Re: 2018 Aprilia RS4 50 Euro 4 - My legs are done in!

Noting that not once ever a friend has sat on the back of Amaya's bike as always takes her mums vespa I removed the rear foot pegs.. much better looking

Yesterday we went for a full day of riding... wasnt meant to be but ended up like that. was fucking awesome!! Quality roads, great scenery and loads of groups of bikers about. We got caught up in a few of them and Amaya was keeping up even though they are much bigger bikes.. but man its hard to walk today!

About 6 hrs into the trip the bike started to play up, almost 'splattering' but with the loss of power which included a few times hard to start.. so we let the bike cool down and had a break then after it was better and at the end almost had gone. I need to take the bike out to test but not sure what it was? dirty fuel? I did put some non synthetic 2 stroke oil in as had it at home and the garage wasnt open so that maybe?? overheating and damaged something, was reading 79 C at the time? a dying spark plug? trying to put my finger on it .. if anyone has had similar problems would be good to know cheers

Sounds like a fun day!

Easiest first step would be to completely drain the gas and refill with fresh.

I might drain the oil tank and refill with synthetic oil as well. No reason to take chances with oil, I always use "the best" that's available - no matter what the price.

Beats engine work.

I would probably pull the spark plug just to take a look, and maybe swap that out as well just to check it off the list.

Those Aprilias both look amazing. Surprising how similar the bodywork is. Good to see her wearing ALL the gear - that looks great as well!

I talked to the local (U.S.) Aprilia dealer about getting a new RS4, but he said he couldn't. I just love the styling.

2018 Aprilia RS4 50: Issues

Post by toratora » Tue Jun 04, 2019 5:39 am

Looks like a total blast.

One of the potential dangers with riding these bikes with big bikes is seizing. I fried my first ProRace kit this way years ago (but I beat the liter bikes up the hill!!).

Her bike may have had a soft seize. 79°C is pretty hot, especially if there was a hard up hill followed by a long down hill. It’s very easy to fry a two stroke this way. Also, I can’t remember, but if you are running the bike that hard, and it is not pre-mix it is very likely to fail. The oil pumps just can’t keep up with that sort of effort.

I would at the very least take a look at it with a bore scope.

These little bikes can provide amazing performance, but remember they are a tiny fraction of the displacement of the bigger bikes, which means they are burning the candle at both ends, and in the middle. It’s as if the candle was just tossed into a furnace. It’s going to be bright, but it’s going to fry!

Please teach her to ride with her hand always over the clutch lever, and if she is at high RPM, and starts to hear a rapid reduction in pitch then grab that clutch! :paw_prints:

The RS4 monicker was retired. ;) It’s now called RS 50.

Aprilia could bring these bikes into the States. They just believe there’s no market. Have your dealer make some noise. Push them hard! :paw_prints:
