Looking into the diode issue again the wiring diagram has some clues. Focusing on number four, which is the diode unit we see how the fuse and diode are integrated into the unit. We see the red line coming from the battery through the fuse where it splits off to two different lines. The Orange line is sent to the ignition switch, and the green line goes through the diode, and then to the voltage regulator. Power can come from the regulator and go to the battery, but not go to the regulator from the battery.

This is a
neat unit available on Amazon. It's an adjustable rate flasher that works with standard lights, and LEDs. It would plug right into the RS50 harness too.

Don't know why it took me so long to figure this out, but that diode is there to function as a half wave rectifier, so it only provides half of the AC that goes into it. Which means that replacing it with a full on Reg/Rec is probably the best way to go. EasyParts sells a
Top Performance Reg/Rec for the GPRs for about 15€. It also features a flasher unit. Employing the
Derbi wiring diagram this would be pretty simple to wire up to the RS50.
