Minarelli AM5 Engine

Post by jscar » Tue Dec 25, 2018 6:08 am

I recently got NOS Minarelli AM5 engine cases with seals and bearings in it. Of course now I find out that my parts from an AM6 will not fit. That true? I also believe that the 90's Aprilia RS50 had this engine. Not sure. Anyway...….

Any info would be helpful to me. I would love to build an engine that has NOS cases for a project. So what parts are different than the AM6? Are parts available? And where to check?

Thanks

If I remember correctly the only difference is the gearbox compared to the am6. When I had an AM5 engine I sourced some parts from an AM6. Of course the crankshaft seals and bearings sizes are different. Just like on the older (-05) and the newer(06-) AM6 engines. the newer ones has the same bearing on the sides of the crankshaft. The older one has 2 different ones.

Hey thanks for the info. It is been hard for me finding info about the am5 engine. There has to be experts out there that know more. Anyway your info is helpful and look forward to hunting down parts for the engine.

What types of parts do you need for it? They are kinda easy to find. At least here in Hungary. But I know a few pages where can be found a few parts.

I would like to find all the transmission parts NOS, or used. Do not need a crank or seals or bearings—just transmission pieces. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have Riejus—the RS1—three of them right now and actually race one of them in a local club racing association. Lots of fun for this old guy.

thanks

Hungary—that is great—My relatives all came from Austria-Hungary to the USA in the late 1890's.

Oh a complette transmission is a harder one. BUT the AM6 gears should fit nicely on the AM5 axis. Just have to measure some sizes. If you have a broken gear then just count the gear numbers and order the same for AM6, it should fit. But if you have the diameter of the axis, then I can help in that. Currently I have a disassembled AM6, so I can help with the sizes.

Yeah Hungary is a nice place, but I kinda hate it. Our political place is not that good. And a new nuclear reactor is not that promising too.

Thanks for your help and info but I think I found what I need from a supply house in Europe. Instead of jury rigging something I am buying a complete am5 transmission. thanks again
