Shock Absorber Derbi GPR

Post by RemS » Tue Dec 04, 2018 11:16 pm

Hey.
I am going to place order for a shock absorber original Derbi.

It is an original shock absorber of Derbi GPR after year 2003.

The piaggio /derbi reference number , is not the same for 1997/2002 , and 2003/2005 ...

Are shock absorbers all the same similar?
Can anybody confirm it to me with certainty?

The grp 03 is few to be shorter, or to longer?

Thanks guys

Hey Rems,

The shocks from when Cagiva made the bike to when they changed to the Benelli frame should all be the same dimensions. The part number I have for the 2003 bike (sometimes called 2004 too) employed part number: 00H01512191

I also just emailed you the 2003 parts manual. ;)

The parts manual for the later bike lists the same number, but I own both bikes, and I can tell you they were not the same shock. The later bikes used a different shock. The older bikes has a shock with a red spring, and has a threaded upper shaft that can be used to adjust the preload. The later bike's shock has a white spring with no adjustment.

thank you very much for the info and the e-mail Toratora .!

so I bought this shock absorber 00h01512191, because if I understood correctly, you explained to me that it is the same length as that mounted on my motorcycle of 1997.

Could you tell me how to recognize a Cagiva frame, and a Benelli frame? What are the differences exactly? That interests me a lot.

THANK YOU

I've been working on a post about the different GPRs.

Bikes like yours were licensed from Cagiva. At one point Derbi was building the Mito 50 for Cagiva—this bike featured a steel frame, later Derbi started selling the bike as a Derbi GPR. You'll notice that the Mito 50 has the drive sprocket, and the discs on opposite sides from the GPR.

There were two versions of the Derbi GPR with the Cagiva frame. One like yours, and one they called the second edition. The frames are almost the same, but the second edition has some minor changes with regards to mounting the plastics, and in 2003 they came in black.

In 2005 Derbi came out with a new bike featuring an aluminum frame that Benelli built for Derbi. This was the first GPR that had an aluminum frame, and the only one that had an aluminum swing arm. The first year of production featured the Euro2 engine, but from 2006 on they employed the Euro3 engine.

In 2010 they changed the bike again this time using the 1999 RS50 frame. This GPR went back to a steel swing arm, and it was the last of the GPRs, but it lives on as a four stroke under other brands and monikers.
