How hot is too hot?

Finally got my beloved GPR50 back on the road after TEN YEARS sitting. The Italkit 80 kit that TT recommended to me has turned it into quite the little pocket rocket. So I've had it on the road a few times now, always with one eye on the digital temp gauge. It got parked ten years ago because it had an overheat problem I just couldn't get sorted out. So I'm a little gun shy right now. I rode it to work yesterday in an area with long grades! I never saw the digital temp gauge get higher than 80°C. Based on the specs in the factory service manual, this should be a non-issue. Just curious what you guys with digital temp gauges typically see on your daily drivers.

That's equal to 176°F - so not very hot for most engines.

I don't have a temp gauge on my Derbi, but my SV's gauge runs in the 185 to 195°F range mostly, but I've seen 210 or so.

Do you have a thermostat in it?

Assuming that you are talking about H2O temps then:

On a water cooled engine 80°C is fine. 150°C is pretty much deadly, and the closer you get to it the more you can expect problems.

If you are talking about head temps they get much hotter, but I don't currently have proper numbers for you on those.

I also have some 4T temps that. I can share. My 899 does't even show a temp until it's around 105°F, until then it just says too low. It can get to over 200°F pretty quickly.

I test rode some Yamahas recently. The MT07 ran at 79°F, the MT09 ran at 83°F, and the R6 ran at over 200°F.
